I wonder when Congress began to see themselves as above the 'common man' who elected them. What happened to our founding Fathers ideals of Public Servants? It seems so much more like Self Service!! Both sides of Congress are guilty of this, this example just happens to be recent and two of the most powerful Democrats. If CEOs spent investors' money, like Congress spends our tax dollar investment, they would be in jail. All Hail The Imperial Congress.
Pelosi to protesters: "Can we drill your brains?"
Politico On Line edition, by Ryan Grim -Aug, 26,2008
House Democratic leaders and protesters waving McCain signs had a war of words Tuesday at a press event outside an old train station. The demonstrators interrupted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with chants of “Drill here! Drill now!”
Pelosi paused and asked the group, “Right here?”
Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) Speaker of the House, I am not sure if this is a picture of her Congressional Office.
Seeming to enjoy the back and forth, she followed with another question: “Can we drill your brains?”
She went on to refer to the protesters, who continued to chant sporadically, as “handmaidens of Big Oil.” Arguing that increased offshore drilling would reduce gas prices by only a couple of pennies a decade from now, she referred to the demonstrators as the “2-cents-in-10-years-crowd.”
Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer swiped at the demonstrators, too, saying that “sophomoric chanting” won’t solve the energy crisis and that “all thinking Americans know” — stressing the word "thinking" and looking at the crowd — that America doesn’t have a quarter of the word’s fossil fuels yet uses a quarter of the world’s energy.
Stoney Hoyer (D-ML) House Majority Leader
and this amazes you how?
ReplyDeleteI am easily amazed, but this does not amaze me, just more of the same.
ReplyDeleteam longing for it to be this time next year...
ReplyDeletesigh....we lost the real "Republic" years ago..... Congress (and most politicians) have felt 'above' the 'common man' for years now. Sad really. But what's REALLY sad is that most Americans don't even care anymore....we've gotten to the point where most would just rather have a monarchy or something similar back again so they don't have to be 'bothered'. now THAT is sad. It's my humble opinion that that is what the democratic party is heading for anyway. At least in theory....
ReplyDeleteShe just doesn't want that pretty California Coast dotted with oil rigs. It might bring the value down of those 300 million dollar casas on the coast. Granted they aren't the most attractive structures. But what choices do we have...a perfected hydrogen fuel cell, solar powered vehicles, more public transportation? It is a sad state of affairs that we the taxpayers get to foot the bill for their conventions also. I heard the figure is 67 million dollars of taxpayer money towards the "Big Party."
ReplyDeleteha. now why doesn't that surprise me? it's akin to whathisface's "carbon footprint buyout" crock---you know, to make up for that house that burns more energy than something like a hundred 'normal' houses or something crazy like that....
ReplyDeleteA little interesting reading John......
ReplyDeleteImagine working for a company that has a little more
than 500 employees and has the following statistics:
* 29 have been accused of spousal abuse
* 7 have been arrested for fraud
* 19 have been accused of writing bad checks
* 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
* 3 have done time for assault
* 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
* 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
* 8 have been arrested for shoplifting
* 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
* 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year...
Can you guess which organization this is?
Give up yet?
It's the 535 members of the United States Congress.
The same group that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to
keep the rest of us in line.
Those are fascinating statistics. Looks like a little housecleaning may be in order.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the ring in The Lord of the Rings...they think they can possess it and not be changed...I wish people would just do the right thing...I sometimes think it's all about them staying in office and power and has nothing to do with the people...Real Shame..
ReplyDeleteHi John...no way am I getting into politics with you guys. Since I don't have to vote, being an alien, I am staying right out of it.....LOL. Hugs.

ReplyDeleteAugust, 2008, Gallup Poll ratings: ,
ReplyDeleteCongressional Approval rating at 18%,
Presidential approval rating at 33%.
Both are way too low, but in fairness Congress should have to supply both ratings when they complain about the low presidential rate. Great list you had Rockin'.
This site is from Regalfemale's page, looks like a wonderful site that calls both sides on half truths and misrepresentations

and Please check out her blog on an organization called VOID, worthwhile for those career politicians who make their career more important than the job they were elected to do.
