Hummingbirds are amazing little creations. So small, clothed in radiant gem like feathers, so fast, yet can hover motionless, on wings beating so fast they are invisible. But with so many backyard feeders, it is important to know if your nectar mix is right. One way is to observe the hummingbirds as they feed.
For the duration of this blog, and with humble apologies to Mr. Rimsky-Korsakov, the following work is retitled The Flight Of The Hummingbird.
uggg I remember trying to play this in a band...so hard to do...i played the cowbell...ugg was so hard
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteA tad too much sugar me thinks.... LOL
ReplyDeleteYou know I spent 3 weeks this summer watching my father's flock (approx. 20) of hummingbirds....and I found that song going through my head several times! Seems so much appropriate for the birds than the bees, but hey....we weren't there to help him with the name of the tune!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love hummingbirds ... and find they still go to my feeder even though it's empty lol. And ya ... a little too much sugar :)
ReplyDeleteI got to hand it to yah pengy theses are some neat little aviators
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaha...great music...I would say from the background too much sugar...lol...thanks for the smiles :)
ReplyDeleteI don't feed them, but, I have a huge Koi pond, and when they come by to get some water from the flowing waterfall, all the big fish gather and jump out after them...occasionally, one of the larger Koi gets lucky, and ends up with a good meal.....
ReplyDeleteCan't play Imeem John. But I love the look on the little Hummers face on the top right.....LOL. Oh no....Robbie's Koi eat the Hummingbirds....that's awful.
ReplyDeleteJust so you know that I am not without compassion..after seeing the Koi go after the Hummingbirds..I have installed a screen over the water in the area the Hummingbirds bathe and drink...now, everyones happy...well maybe except for the Koi...
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing, would never imagine the Koi would go after hummingbirds, but then they do get rather large. Am now waiting for a news report about the first case of man-eating Koi. Glad to hear you protect the little hummers!!
ReplyDeleteLOL...I have some as large as 30 pounds John...my wife is from Thailand, and when her friends come over and gather around the pond..I get a little nervous that some of those tasty Thai dishes...may be a little more fresh..than I first thought.....
ReplyDeleteHehehe... musta been one of them energy drinks the kids buy now a days.... LORDY THATS SWEET! *Shivers all over*. My mom used to be able to have them land on her head... shoulders etc...... Wish I woulda had a camera back then. Now that she's moved close to a noisy part of the city.. they don't seem to come anymore. Hope your having a great week so far!
ReplyDeletefascinating bout that hummingbird eating fish too... wowie!
ReplyDeletethat's cute... I love that cartoon! :)~
ReplyDeleteI think this is the best one yet..... LOL.... I just wonder????? If that was Red Bull..... Hehehehhe, too funny. I'll make sure my feeders are mixed just right... Hugs John
ReplyDeleteVery cute -- Thanks for the laugh. I'll be sure to check the contents of my new feeders when I fill them up.
ReplyDeleteI have received a couple PM's about my Koi eating the Hummingbirds. Please let me say..I had no idea my fish would jump out of the pond to try to snag one for lunch. This happened a few years ago when I realized the fish were jumping out of the water and eating them by the waterfall. I want to assure everyone, that I do not want this to happen either, and as soon as I found out they were doing this, I had a screen installed by the waterfall, where the Hummingbirds would drink water and bathe. The fish can no longer jump out at the Hummingbirds in this area..and they (the Hummingbirds) only congregate in that area of the pond. The rest of the pond is unscreened, and the Hummingbirds don't go there, they are only attracted by the waterfall....let me assure you, the fish do congregate when the Hummingbirds come by, but the fish are not able to get them. So for the people that PM'd me, I want to assure you, no Hummingbirds are being swallowed, and are free to spread joy, for as long as their natural lives allow them.....(I appreciate your concern by the way)
ReplyDeleteRockin' I nominate you for President, singlehandedly you have the hummingbirds and the Koi of your pond living in peace and harmony. First the Pond, then the World!!!
ReplyDeleteKinda like building "The Wall" here in San Diego to keep the Illegals out...I kind of adopted that concept with the H-birds and Koi...LOL...the experiment works...so, the building of the wall can continue.....
ReplyDeleteA couple of notes by the way on "The Wall"...it turns out upon background checks that 42% of the workers building the wall, were Illegal aliens...hows that for an oxymoron. After the wall is built, not sure what good it will do, anyone that can run, jump, or swim..is already here....
ReplyDeleteI can see the placards now! :)
ReplyDeletenow WHY doesn't that surprise me?
