Actually had a good day for a change, not pain free, never pain free, but within the levels many of us are living with. A level we learn to live with and accept as normal. Took a drive over to Moss Landing and made sure I remembered the camera. I paid for the drive later in the afternoon, but it was worth it to be out and about for a while.
To the right of this picture is raised walkway and a restaurant, recently rebuilt after a fire. The boat dock originally was made so boaters could tie up and go into the restaurant, and for local fishermen. but alas, the best laid plans of building departments.
So thick they have to walk on each other, makes for loud and boisterous sea lions.
They find a place, even if it is on top of someone else. The poor fellow in the center bottom is trying to squeese out, he wanted back into the water.
Pure comfort.
More pics will be forthcoming. Not sure how long I watched them for, it was certainly enjoyable, especially seeing them trying to find a spot open enough for them to jump up into. Most of the time they just land on another Sea Lion, and depending on size either force they way on, or are pushed back into the water.
Hey.... I want that job!
ReplyDeleteWOW!The pics are awesome!
ReplyDeleteOMG ~ so much more than I even imagined!!! What a sight to behold!!!
ReplyDeleteSome really amazing photos! With the sound... I feel like I'm there.
(((HUGS)))
I am wondering if all that food attracts sharks?
ReplyDeleteGator, This IS NOT a Gator Smorgasboard!!!
ReplyDeletepengy these are way cool shots and you know to wacth them sea lions they eat penguins ok well this was a leopard seal but they are close relatives
ReplyDeletemy mouth is watering
ReplyDeleteOh wait, if they eat penguins you go right ahead, will be right back with that spicy sauce you like. . .
ReplyDeletelol the same i use for dipping nuggets
ReplyDeleteROFL!!! The same!!!
ReplyDeletelol hey dude these are really kewl could you smell em?
ReplyDeleteYes big sea lions eat penguins but great whites eat whatever they can find.. including the odd croc!
ReplyDeleteThankfully no, lost most of my smelling sense when I feel on my head. The loss comes in really handy during the spring when there are many flattened skunks on the rural roads around here.
ReplyDeletelmao did she just call me odd? dang she DOES know me
ReplyDelete"odd croc" yes she did
ReplyDeletelmao i couldnt tell if she say odd or old either applies though
ReplyDeleteWe have the sea lions on the sac river. In the coves all over...Major problem in the delta too...
ReplyDeleteGreat pics
Those are amazing photos, I would love to see something like that , we do have seals here but nothing compared to that and they are out at sea all you can see is the sun glinting off of their heads. One year they did come here to give birth because the ice had broken up early, that was something I wish I had of taken pictures of .
ReplyDeleteI am glad you enjoyed your time out and sorry that you had to pay for it later on, my sister lives with chronic back pain, and has to pace herself always, even though the pain is not as bad as it once was, she still cannot do too much at one time. I have arthritis and know about pain from that but I am sure nothing compared to what you go through, I wish you many many painfree days !!
Gosh, too bad their natural habitat is gone. I wonder how many are crushed or suffocated? They are amazing animals. Great photography ... thanks!
ReplyDeletelol..a real mess of sealions...lovely pics John glad you got out for a little while x wish the pain would go too...huggs
ReplyDeleteThese are great! Lol-what a sight! John, I hope your pain goes away and you feel well. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI was there last spring. It's an amazing spectacle of nature! Thanks for sharing these, and I hope you get to feeling better. (Less pain, anyway... I know what it's like.)
ReplyDeletewhat a sight to see!! I'm glad you were feeling better today John. I'm sure watching the seals was a pleasure though...I would love to see that! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteSo cute Johnoh...looks like a lot of cuddlin goin on..giggle...granddaughters are listening to the seal noise..wondering.
ReplyDeleteROFL!!!! The perfect song!!!
ReplyDeleteBarb does know you too well, Odd and Old. . .
ReplyDeleteLOL..as you know I had many projects up in Monterey..and the home I was living in was on the waters edge..and could not sleep at night because of all the seals and sea lions making all that racket..used to watch the fisherman come in with the daily haul with hundreds of sea lions swimming behind the boat..as soon as the boat docked, the fish would be taken into the plant to be cleaned..and the waste, heads etc. of the fish would be thrown out to the sea lions, and it was a mad dash for them to eat...although this looks comical, it is such a safety and health hazard one has to endure living on the Monteray Penninsula...cool pics John...
ReplyDeleteDuck, you were 25 minutes away!!!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen so many in one place. They'll be eating up all the fish in the harbor there. They couldn't be on any endangered species list.
ReplyDeletewhat an amazing picture john! wow i have never seen anything like that.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing it with us and i'm sorry you're hurting from your trip
Well, I hope to get there this summer as well. Around July 25th. Haven't set dates yet, but my 20 year HS reunion is on that date...and a family reunion is in the works as well. You may have a visitor and a guest. :D

ReplyDeleteI love those pictures. Last time we were in San Fran we had the kids with us, and we were SO excited to show them the sea lions, and they weren't there! We were there at the wrong season. I was so bummed!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I saw your PPF entry, before I saw this blog. That already made me smile. A very unusual sight, so may sea lions together!
