PICTURE PERFECT OLD FASHIONED

Several Months back, our bay was graced with three Tall Ships on one weekend.  The replica of the HMS Bounty was one of them.  This is a photo of the Bounty's Figurehead.  I used the clone tool to cover a motor launch and the shoreline in the background, to give it an on the open ocean look.  Then used the B&W tool and played with the shading and highlights.

I always wondered why Figureheads, if they were women or mermaids always seem to have such healthy bosums, little did I realize it had to do with luck.  I always thought it was to entertain the sailors after several months at sea.  And she has a riding crop, who says those Victorians weren't kinky.

And look Heather, she is showing off her shoes!!!!!

Camera is a Kodak EasyShare Z612

This sideboard explains this particular Figurehead, and why the Figureheads were so well endowed.

About figurehead

Do you think Captain Bligh would have had better luck with his crew, if Miss Berthia had less clothes on??

PLEASE NOTE:  If you enjoy the Tall Ships, please visit Amalie2's site, her town recently had a gathering of more Tall Ships than I have ever heard of, and she has some marvelous pictures of the event.  The last photo in her Tall Ship page is a slide show.  Well worth seeing:

  16. You have done a fantastic job with the editing. I can almost hear the creaking mast joists as the sea winds buffet the ship. We sailed on that tall ship in the Caribbean, the Fantome, the one that sunk. Pictures are on my site too. I don't think she had a figurehead. Maybe that was the problem. Those old ships are true works of art and craftmanship. Great job John and thanks for stopping by mine also.

  19. What a beautiful job of making it look like the open sea! Wouldn't it be great to go aboard and see what it is like around the ship? These old ships are so fastenating!! The sideboard is intersting... I see buxom, but I am still trying to figure out her scantily clad part... I mean all I see are her ankles... boy would those sailors get excited on our beaches today!!!!

  41. oh what a lovely entry, john! and your background matching as well! what a perfect entry!

you mentioned that the vessels figurehead always are women, but i have observed an exception. on the ship shabab oman, there is a male figurehead. i visited the ship, and asked the captain why? he assured me it was not because they disliked women, but the figurehead was of a former sailor, a hero in their region which i oman. you can find an image of this in my blog http://amalie2.multiply.com/journal/item/123/Anchors_away_A_most_exotic_weekend_

  42. Hi Amalie, I am sorry if I gave that impression, I meant that, of the figureheads I have seen (in museums, or pictures) that are women, those always seem to be "healthy", Other than that, I have seen figureheads of men, fish, dragon looking creatures, mermaids, crests, horses, etc.

And to the other readers, if you like Tall Ships, I do recommend you go to Amalie's page, her town had a festival of more Tall Ships in one place than I have ever seen or heard of before. And she has some marvelous pictures of the event.
