A MOST POMPOUS ASS
Please click the link below Sgt. Seavey's picture to see how two US Congressman treated a returned and injured United States Vet. It is one of the most reprehensible acts I have seen. Rep. (short for reprehensible) Jack Murtha who was with Rep. (short for Reprehensible) Moran, is the same Rep. Murtha who said our Marines had killed civilians women and children in cold blood in Haditha, Iraq. Guilty before the report and investigation had even been completed. All but one of the Marines have been exonerated, and it seems to be a matter of time before the last one is cleared. The Pompous (I refuse to use the title Honorable that the Representatives prefer) Jack Murtha has refused to apologize for his words.
Those of you who say your support the troops, I have supplied addresses to these two politicians, so that you can write them or phone them to tell them how upset you are about the way they treated this Soldier, and how Rep. Murtha treated the Marines. Tell these two 'public servants', a public and loud apology from them to the citizens they wronged is needed. After all, you say you support the troops.
Sgt. Mark Seavey,Third Battalion, 116th Infantry, Virginia National Guard, injured Afghanistan vet.

A future blog will list organisations and groups that will accept donations of goods and money that will be sent to the troops, fund scholarships for children who have lost parents in this war, and accepts letters of support to our troops. No excuse now when someone asks you what you have done for the troops since you say you support them. Hey why wait till the blog, thank a person in uniform, pick up their tab at a restaurant. Have a neighbor who's son, daughter or husband or wife is over seas? Ask them if they need anything, or if they need things for a care package. After all, you say you support the troops.
Those of you who do not support the young men and women in service, have probably not even gotten this far, so have a nice life, enjoy what others have purchased for you with their sacrifice. Others of us will thank the troops for you.
And to those of you from other countries, who also have your soldiers in harms way. Thank you.
"Does the government fear us? Or do we fear the government? When the people fear the government, tyranny has found victory. The federal government is our servant, not our master!" - Thomas Jefferson
Marianne gave me the idea to use a video in this blog. Hers is quite funny, when we lose the ability to laugh at ourselves, we are in trouble. I have to type a disclaimer in, not all democrats have verbally assaulted the troops in this way, but it is a very sad comment that you have the democratic leadership in the forefront, Speaker of the House Ms. Pelosi, Senate Majority Whip Mr. Durbin, Senate Majority Leader Mr. Reid, former Presidential Candidate Mr. Kerry. Secondly I am not endorsing the ProudConservative.com site, but will be looking at it to find out what kind of site it is. Might be very funny.

NEW MUSIC FOR LOVERS
I have been following this young lady for a couple of years now, named Callaghan. Now this is not what it sounds like, so no 911 calls okay. She is a very talented and very pretty young lady from London, UK. She is as yet an unsigned singer and composer. And after seeing and hearing some of the crap that passes as Top Ten songs/singers, I have to wonder why she has not been discovered. A lot of the most popular singers today are so over produced and over dubbed that to find someone with such a clear and clean magical voice is just a wonderful thing. This is one of my favorite songs of hers. This is for all the lovers, and lovers who are looking for their love.
Her Myspace page is: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=58975497
It is worth stopping by and listening to some of her other songs. Her writing can stand by itself as poetry. Enjoy!!
IT WAS MEANT TO BE
by Callaghan
It was meant to be
And better than I could believe
Something we can hold on to
Till the stars burn out
You are here with me
Closer than you’ve ever been
I am you and you are me
The lines are fading out
Chorus
So lay down your weary heart
Stay by my side
And I promise I’ll be here
Till we run out of time
Always meant to be
Like the world turns endlessly
We will keep on growing tall
Reaching to the clouds
Chorus
So lay down your weary heart
Stay by my side
And I promise I’ll be here
Till we run out of time
It was meant to be
Floating on a summer breeze
And rising as we fall so deep
In each other's arms
Like a flower needs
Sun and water to succeed
I need you so I can breathe
That's how it's meant to be
You are here with me
(I had several requests to put the seagull pic back up, I hear and obey. Those Canadians, not only an intelligent and good looking people, but have such sharp eyes too!!)
You are here with me
And that's how it's meant to be
(evidently, whoever posted this on Imeem did not know the singer AND songwriter is Callaghan.)

BEAUTIFUL BARE FEET
Tracy Roberts, 33, of Rockville, Md. has her toes nibbled on by a type of carp called garra rufa, or doctor fish, during a fish pedicure treatment at Yvonne Hair and Nails salon in Alexandria, Va." (Well now the whole world knows what Tracy's feet look like.--JOh)
THE SUN, UK, Thursday July 24th, 2008 by Sara Nelson
IT’S a fishy way of freshening up your feet – but letting carp nibble on your tootsies is the latest spa treatment to net beauty junkies.
Fish pedicures are creating something of a splash in the Washington D.C. area, where a northern Virginia spa has been offering them for the past four months.
Salon owner John Ho said he wanted to come up with something unique while finding a replacement for pedicures that use razors to scrape off dead skin.
He said: “I know people were a little intimidated at first, but I just said ‘let’s give it a shot’.”
Customers of the treatment, which is popular in Turkey and some Asian countries quickly became hooked.
After up to half-an-hour of having your feet nibbled by a tank of hungry fish, customers then get a standard pedicure, which is made easier by the fish’s work.
TICKLISH
Mr Ho, who charges $35 for a 15 minute session and $50 for half-an-hour, has more than 1,000 fish at his salon. Around 100 fish are in each individual pedicure tank at any one time. Customer Patsy Fisher, 42, admitted she was nervous as she prepared for her first fish pedicure.
But her fears dissolved into laughter after she put her feet in the tank and the fish swarmed to her toes.
“It’s a little ticklish, actually,” she said.
Mr Ho said the hot water in which the fish thrive doesn't support plant or aquatic life, so they learned to feed on whatever food sources were available - including dead, flaking skin. They leave live skin alone because, without teeth, they can’t bite it off.
Mr Ho is considering a full-body fish treatment to treat psoriasis and other ailments.
PICTURE PERFECT --- SONG TITLES
Pacific Grove's Magic Carpet in full bloom. This was taken several months ago, along the Pacific Grove shore line. It is actually called the Magic Carpet by the locals and the Chamber of Commerce/Tourist Board. Funny, as the plant is not a native plant, it was imported from South Africa long long ago. And yes Ronnie, I will mention that in Australia it is called Pig's Face, I still have not figured out how the Aussies came up with that name. . .
Two song titles for the one picture:
MAGIC CARPET RIDE -- STEPPENWOLF ( my era!!!)
The Player is set to pause, you will have to manually start them if you care to hear the songs. They are two completely different songs, not two versions of a song. Of course I am biased towards Steppenwolf, a lot of good memories from that time, at least the ones I can remember.

MEN AND WOMEN --- HOW DO WE EVER GET ALONG??
I have often pondered the marvelous differences between men and women, physical, emotional, the way we view things, all one of the great mysteries. If it works between them, the sum is far greater than the two. And if it does not work, sometimes One is not the loneliest number, sometimes Two is a far lonelier number. How to get it to work, that is another great mystery. . .
An English professor wrote the following words on the blackboard:
"A Woman without her Man is nothing"
He then asked his students to puntuate it.
The males tended to puntuate it:
"A Woman, without her Man, is nothing."
The females tended to puntuate it this way:
A Woman: without her, man is nothing."
We were thinking of painting some of the rooms, and she asked me what I thought of "this color?"
And I simply answered, "It looks like the same red you showed me a minute ago, and the same red you showed me two minutes ago."
To which she replied with a tone that cannot be described, but every husband knows the one I mean: "This IS Spring Morning Rose!!!"
I know my way to the Dog House quite well.

UPDATE ANOTHER PICTURE FOUND!!!! JGARY'S FRATERNITY PICTURES!!!!!
Most of you know I love to research history, and things that were. To my surprise, I came across the find of a life time in some old university photos. More research is needed, but I am convinced this is a picture of JGary's fraternity, and I am sure he is somewhere in this group photo.
Does anyone think they see him?
This is purely conjecture at this time, but I tend to think the pirate gator is our own JGary. JGary to this day has a thing for sailing ships and mermaids, not necessarily in that order. And the third bit of conjecture is JGary to this day rises above the crowd, still not sure if that is because of the beer or not.
Another picture was in the box of unknown university shots. I think this explains the reason the Zebra was running in the first picture, JGary's fraternity had a Chug Party going on out back of the Frat House, but it certainly was not your normal Chug Party.
*****
The Gator has a wealth of knowledge about photography he willing shares, and lists several photo challanges on his site (with links!), from PICTURE PERFECT, to MONOCHROMATIC MONDAY, and others, a lot of fun learning new things and meeting new people, please check his site, mermaids especially welcome, tell him Dr. Oh sent you.

PICTURES FROM THE BIG SUR COMPLEX FIRE
Sorry for the quality of these. I photographed them from the Friday and Saturday Monterey County Herald Newspaper. You have to be in awe of the professional and volunteer firefighters, and our military who are out in these unbelievable conditions, working 12 plus hour days.
Friday July 11, 08 Herald: "A military C-130 air tanker drops retardant on advancing flames off Tassajara Road at the Basin Complex Fire in Carmel Valley." Orville Myers photo
July 11th, 08 Herald: "A helicopter dumps water against a backdrop of smoke on Tassajara Road." Orville Myers photo. (I am not sure you can make it out in this size of the photo, but the water bucket is in the clear spot between the two smaller smoke billows in the front of the picture.--John--Note: A few people have asked about the two vertical lines in the smoke cloud, I did not notice them when taking the picture and since they are parallel, I am thinking they might have been where the newspaper was folded.)
July 12, 08 Herald "National Forest Service firefighter Jose Ribera sets a backfire near the Oliver Observing Station on Chews Ridge on Friday." Vern Fisher photo
July 12th, 08 Herald: "Flames more than 100 feet high crest a ridge near the Oliver Observing Station on Chews RIdge in Tassajara Road area on Friday." Vern Fisher Photo
FLIR CAMERAS USED TO VIEW HIDDEN WILDFIRES
Now this site is really interesting. FlIR is using their Infrared Cameras to view the fire lines hidden behind smoke clouds. It is a very welcome tool to the firefighters, giving on site views, making it easier to make decisions on fighting the fire, and safer for the firefighters.

WATERMELON LOVE!!!????
I have always loved watermelon, one of my favorite things right after chocolate, though on a hot day it would certainly rate Number ONE!!! Now I have even more reason to like it, enjoy it, consume it in massive quantities. Tastes soooo good, and now sooooo good for you!!! Have you had your watermelon today? Enjoy!!! --JohnOh--
WATERMELON 'HAS SIMILAR EFFECTS TO VIARGRA'
Not sure why the young lady is eating the watermelon, but the poor fellow looks wonderfully exhausted. Either that, or he couldn't breathe with the watermelon over his head!
Eating watermelon can boost a man's libido in a similar way to taking Viagra, researchers say.
Experts claim that the red-fleshed fruit contains an ingredient that affects the body's blood vessels in the same way as when a man takes the sex drug. Researchers believe that the juicy fruit could be used to help men who suffer from erectile dysfunction.
Something tells me that her excuse of having a headache will not work this time.
Watermelons are loaded with an organic compound called citrulline that can trigger blood vessels to relax, much like Viagra does, according to scientists from Texas A&M University in the United States
Dr Bhimu Patel, who led the study, said that when watermelon is consumed, citrulline is converted to an amino acid called arginine which improves circulation. Dr Patel, who is director of the university's Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Centre, said: "The more we study watermelons, the more we realize just how amazing a fruit it is in providing natural enhancers to the human body.
"We've always known that watermelon is good for you, but the list of its very important health benefits grows longer with each study. "Arginine boosts nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels, the same basic effect that Viagra has, to treat erectile dysfunction and maybe even prevent it.
"Watermelon may not be as organ specific as Viagra but it's a great way to relax blood vessels without any drug side-effects." He added that eating watermelon could also improve heart health, the immune system and even help people who suffer from obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Beneficial ingredients in watermelon and other fruits and vegetables are known as phyto-nutrients, naturally occurring compounds that are able to react with the human body to trigger healthy reactions. While there are many psychological and physiological problems that can cause impotence, extra nitric oxide could help those who need increased blood flow, researchers found.
For you Cavey, The Texas Watermelon Queen.
Citrulline is found in higher concentrations in the rind of watermelons (Bummer, I did not realize I would have to eat the rinds!!) than the flesh. Because the rind is not commonly eaten, Dr Patil's team are working to breed new varieties with higher concentrations in the flesh. Almost 92 percent of watermelon is water, but the remaining 8 percent is loaded with lycopene, an anti-oxidant that protects the human heart, prostate and skin health.
TAM LIN -- A SCOTTISH FOLK TALE
Tint and I were talking recently about Celtic music, and in that conversation she mentioned BLACKMORE"S NIGHT. I was pleased as I have not run across all that many who know of or enjoy their music; and I was sharing with her a similar sound by FAIRPORT CONVENTION. Which gave me the idea to post this music and art blog. I first came across TAM LIN by FAIRPORT CONVENTION (album title LIEGE & LIEF) in 1969, one of those musical treasures that stays with us, and certainly changes us in unknown ways, perhaps by some of the magic that used to be, and is still, in the quiet of moonlite nights. When I finally wore out my vinyl I was surprised to see it had been re-issued in CD. This is my second CD. TAM LIN was first mentioned in 1549, but the oral tradition must go much farther back before that. I hope you enjoy this treat, let it take you back to another time and another place, when the Fairy Folk still walked in the same world that men do. --JohnOh--
TAM LIN
Performed by Fairport Convention
on album Liege & Lief
vocals by Sandy Denny
I forbid you maidens all
that wear gold in your hair
To travel to Carterhaugh
for young Tam Lin is there
None that go by Carterhaugh
but they leave him a pledge
Either their mantles of green
or else their maidenheads.
Janet tied her kirtle green
a bit above her knee
And she's gone to Carterhaugh
as fast as go can she.
She'd not pulled a double rose,
a rose but only two
When up then came young Tam Lin
says "Lady pull no more"
"And why come you to Carterhaugh
without command from me?"
"I'll come and go" young Janet said
"And ask no leave of thee".
Janet tied her kirtle green
a bit above her knee
And she's gone to her father
as fast as go can she.
Well up then spoke her father clear
and he spoke meek and mild
"Oh and alas Janet" he said
"I think you go with child."
"Well if that be so" Janet said
"Myself shall bear the blame
There's not a knight in all your hall
shall get the baby's name.
For if my love were an earthly knight
as he is an elfin grey
I'd not change my own true love
for any knight you have."
So Janet tied her kirtle green
a bit above her knee
And she's gone to Carterhaugh
as fast as go can she.
"Oh tell to me Tam Lin" she said
"Why came you here to dwell?"
"The Queen of Fairies caught me
when from my horse I fell
And at the end of seven years
she pays a tithe to hell
I so fair and full of flesh
and fear'ed be myself
But tonight is Halloween
and the fairy folk ride,
Those that would their true love win
at mile's cross they must hide.
First let pass the horses black
and then let pass the brown
Quickly run to the white steed
and pull the rider down,
For I'll ride on the white steed,
the nearest to the town
For I was an earthly knight,
they give me that renown.
Oh they will turn me in your arms
to a newt or a snake
But hold me tight and fear not,
I am your baby's father.
And they will turn me in your arms
into a lion bold
But hold me tight and fear not
and you will love your child,
And they will turn me in your arms
into a naked knight
But cloak me in your mantle
and keep me out of sight".
In the middle of the night
she heard the bridle ring
She heeded what he did say
and young Tam Lin did win.
Then up spoke the Fairy Queen,
an angry Queen was she
"Woe betide her ill-farred face,
an ill death may she die
Had I known Tam Lin" she said
"This night I did see
I'd have looked him in the eyes
and turned him to a tree."
