FALL
We do not have the fall colors like most of the nation. I did not realize how beautiful the change was until I spent some time in Wisconsin during the Fall.
We do have a lot of fallen trees in our Monterey Pine forests, Deadfalls. When I lived in Humboldt County several years ago, an old Logger told me they were called Deadfalls because they sometimes snag and hang up on other trees. A wind can dislodge them so in effect they become like a Deadfall trap on a human scale. It is easier than saying a Precariously Perched Piece of Pine.
But then it is all part of the circle of life. The old fallen giant breaks openings in the brush and lets more sun onto the forest floor for new growth. The old trunk and branches provides home and shelter for innumerable creatures, and finally the insects and fungi reduces the old man of the forest to mulch and nutrients, and the circle starts again.
The camera is a Kodak EasyShare Z612, and the picture was taken at Jack's Peak County Park.
Clever, youve combined the colours of fall with a fallen tree..love it!!
ReplyDeleteAnd don't forget, it's absolutely marvelous fuel for fores fires. ;)
ReplyDeleteWe went to WI just a couple weeks ago, and, while the colors weren't what they usually are, it sure is pretty to see reds and oranges. :)
nice blog...loved the Lumberjack tune...when you did that Penguins blog...I was thinking of Lyle Lovett's song Penguins...
ReplyDeleteyes........and the circle continues.......
ReplyDeleteSorry Foto, those color changed leaves are dead pine needles and oak leaves from the tree that fell, and an oak that had been crushed. Does that count as fall colors?
ReplyDeleteNice shot. Like the low angle.
ReplyDeleteI like your take, John. So many interpretation of the 'fall' theme this week. I really enjoy it... Thanks for sharing and visiting mine.
ReplyDeleteGreat pic and so fitting of the theme!

ReplyDeletep.s. I hope that song wasn't about you lol

ReplyDeleteAmazing how big they are when they fall. And yes you are! lol :)
ReplyDeletegreat interpetation of Fall.......
ReplyDeleteI like your interpretation of the theme, and the picture. It is all part of nature, the cycle of life.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on mine. Have a great Friday!
I've used the 612 and I've sold it to many of my friends. Love this camera and the pic. They have recently upgraded this camera to a 712.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and an interesting story behind it. It's so true, John... a fallen tree is often viewed by mankind as a nuisence, but it has it's place in the big picture.
ReplyDeleteOh this is nice, I love the forests of Humboldt. Spent a lot of time there growing up, and wish to again one day.... great interpretation of fall.
ReplyDeleteHey John, lovely post. I like the colours and textures in the pic and I enjoyed your writing. We had a huge storm where I work in Stanley Park last year and it wiped out parts of the park. Entire areas of forest just flattened. It was horrible, but your reminder that it is the circle of life is an important one. And now, instead of wailing over the huge gaps where trees used to be, we admire the new view of the ocean that it opened up. I love the sign and Monty Python too. :)
ReplyDeleteas usual, good job! I need to work on mine...I did the Friday Five just now, guess I'll try to get the Foto Friday up tomorrow....
ReplyDeleteLol...first...my fave Python song!!!!!! Have you seen the video with Tom Hanks and the Pythons? It's great!
ReplyDeleteAwesome photo and blog to go with it. Dead fall is so important to the circle.
Answer to question....but of course.
A precarious perched piece of pine!! But the song really added and if you've been to Wisconsin like in Hayward (?) home of Paul Bunyan; you'd know that. Great job John...mine is coming!!
ReplyDeletegreat photo!!! NO HE IS NOT WRONG!!! - probably the only time a man can be himself - giggles !
ReplyDeleteGreat picture. I like this perspective.
ReplyDeleteI like the other side of that old saying too....
There are times when I miss the left coast. Seeing pics from out there does it for me. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI have to echo the comments of FotoFriday... great shot of the theme... I love your sense of humor... but you can get serious, too, when you describe the circle of life of this season. Very nice blog, John.
ReplyDeletehahaha just love the song " I wish I was a girly just like my dear Papa" classic....:)
ReplyDelete"I put on womens clothing and hang around in bars" hahaha I knew folk like that..shhhhh
Great up take on the word fall Mr O you must have autumn like we do back home the trees look exactly the same for this time of year, no real bursts of colour but shedding all the same.
Wonderful photo!!! Something about that corner lighting and all... trees always make me think of the circle of life somehow too.

ReplyDeleteVery different take on the theme John, its a great picture, when I first saw it, I thought the tree was on fire its got a smoky look about it. Oh thanks so much for the wonderful message, made me shed a tear or two...shhhh
ReplyDeleteI like your take on the theme. Nice photo.
ReplyDeleteGreat take on the theme John. I have to tell you that when I was in the Lassen Volcanic National park, we were parked in a parking lot taking photos on ofne of the lakes there and "crash" down comes a snag. It missed a car with two people sitting therein only by inches. My husband then wouldn't let me get closer to take a photo as he said where there is one there is always others. Great photo.
ReplyDeleteOh John
ReplyDeleteHAHA! That saying is just too funny!! And the answer to your ?
- YES, HE IS WRONG STILL!! ;)
Very clever take.

ReplyDeleteI had never heard of the term "deadfalls". You learn something every day, right? Very nice picture.
ReplyDeleteLove the quote. Reminds me of the "if a tree falls on a mime, does he make a sound?" line.
ReplyDeleteand who is FALLing for that sign?
ReplyDeleteharleymick got the answer ;-)
Deadfall, how fitting for an autumn theme.
ReplyDeleteVERY cool!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame you can't enjoy the fall color from your home, but depending on where that is, maybe not! Anyway, I'm glad you were able to enjoy some for a while!
You will just have to come to WV to see all the wonderful colors!! And...is the man supposed to speak? hehehehehehehhehehehe!
ReplyDeleteSo many ways to interpret fall this week but it's my favorite season so I'm glad there are so many colorful fall photos....since my weekend was cut short I'm thinking a drive up 88-89 to Lake Tahoe is in order just to get a taste of the fall colors today.
ReplyDeleteI love the Fall, sorry you don't have it in your area. It is so beautiful here, it's breath taking. You have a wonderful blog! And the music is so clever!
ReplyDeleteI like the low angle too. It looks like it is looming above you ready to fall further down the hill. Good take on the theme. Thanks for visiting mine.
ReplyDeleteThe odds are that yes, the man is still wrong. Great picture btw!! I love seeing fallen trees. Not sure why.....
ReplyDeleteI agree. We do not have the same fall as most of the rest of the country. I'm willing to keep it the way it as, as long as I can avoid the snow! LOL. Nice pic. Thanks for sharing.
