UDDERLY FANTASTIC SUPPORT AND WARMTH NEW BRA DESIGN

I have to wonder if a lonely farmer invented these late during the 20 hour of dark seasons.

An American, a Mr. Tamm invented a bovine boulder holder in the 1940s because his prize milking cows kept stepping on their teats. (Did you know that a milk cows udder can weigh over 100 pounds when full of milk?  Gives a whole new meaning to over endowed.)  His daughter still continues the business, her father's and her story is at the following link:

 http://livestockhealth.suite101.com/article.cfm/bras_for_cow_fill_the_need

There is a french designer (go figure!) that has a line of bovine support bras (should that be singular?)  that includes lace lined bras (bra).

IT'S UDDER-LY COLD OUT THERE

BY Leon Watson; THE SUN UK On Line Edition; Feb. 4th 2009

HOLY cow! These farm animals are so cold they're wearing bovine BRAS to keep warm.

The nippy winter weather in Russia at the moment is so extreme farmers in Oimyakon have been forced to make their cows wear protection.

Local civic leader Rustam Krivoshapkin said: "All the cows in the village wear them.

"The bra protects them from getting their udders completely frozen up.

"They all seem to like it because it can't be nice to have such cold teats.

"They come in all sorts of different colours and they are all made of very warm thermal warm material, like fleeces," he added.

In the depths of winter, the temperature in Oimyakon often plunges to -64C.

FROM THE EARTH TIMES ON LINE

Moscow - Farmers in Russia's Far East have outfitted their heifers with special furry bras to protect their udders as temperatures hit 50 degrees below zero. Local residents in the Russian region of Yakutia say if they don't sew such mono-bras for the cows, their milking nipples may suffer frostbite in the drastic temperatures.  ( Frost Bitten nipples?  OUCH!!!  As opposed to gently bitten nipples?)

A sheer see through model for those warm days. . .

"The bras, or - in Yakutian - "sialdbas", are made from a triangle of thick fabric lined with rabbit fur. Three straps are sewn onto the bra, two of which are tied around the cows' waist and the third to the tail," one resident, Natalia Semyenova, was quoted by news agency Ria-Novosti as saying.

RESEARCH REPORTS BRITISH WOMENS' BREASTS BIGGEST IN EUROPE

A bra manufacturer by the name of Triumph came up with this research idea, regardless,  you just have to love science!!! And not only does this report show that British Women have the biggest in Europe, but in Great Britain (another reason to call Britain Great!) the Women in the North lands have the Biggest in Britain.  I can only hope they are still comfortable for the owners.

Mr. Triumph I presume?

BRIT GIRLS' BOOBS ARE THE BIGGEST IN EUROPE

The Sun, Friday Oct. 24th, 2008   thesun.co.uk

BRITISH women have the biggest breasts in Europe, a survey revealed yesterday.

The poll for bra maker Triumph found that only in this country did more than half the women need a D cup or larger.

Percentage of women wearing cup size: D C B A

UK 57 18 19 6

Denmark 50 19 24 7

Netherlands 36 27 29 8

Belgium 28 28 35 9

France 26 29 38 7

Sweden 24 30 33 14

Greece 23 28 40 9

Switzerland 19 24 43 14

Austria 11 27 51 10

Italy 10 21 68 1

Our 57 per cent ? including curvy model Kelly Brook ? put the rest in the shade, with Denmark second on 50 per cent, then Holland with 36 per cent.

Smallest were the Italians where 68 per cent had a size B.

The Swedes and the Swiss had the largest number of A cup sizes at 14 per cent

Breasts Are Bigger up North

eMediaWire  UK

A recent UK poll of women’s lingerie habits by soseamless.com, an online retailer specialising in seamless lingerie, tells us that women in the North of England have the biggest breasts, with 69% sporting a C-cup or above, compared to 65% of women in the South and 58% of women in Scotland, who have an average bra size of 36B compared to the national average of 36C.

(PRWEB) November 13, 2005 -- A recent UK poll of women’s lingerie habits by soseamless.com, an online retailer specialising in seamless lingerie, tells us that women in the North of England have the biggest breasts, with 69% sporting a C-cup or above, compared to 65% of women in the South and 58% of women in Scotland, who have an average bra size of 36B compared to the national average of 36C.

Women in the North are also the most frequent bra shoppers, buying a new bra twice as often as their southern counterparts, on average 3 – 4 times a year. Money doesn’t seem to be an issue either, with only 4% citing price as a key factor when buying a new bra, compared to 13% of women in the South and 9% of women in Scotland.

For the UK population as a whole, the primary purchase factor is comfort, with 95% of women stating that a comfortable bra is their main priority. Price is their second concern, followed by seamless / invisible under clothing, and finally fashion / brand.

The UK Poll of more than 1,000 women’s bra sizes and lingerie buying habits was conducted by YouGov on behalf of soseamless.com as part of their ongoing customer services programme. Soseamless.com wanted to determine what women look for in a new bra as this is critical in its decision process when adding to their collection.

“Women have always looked for comfort first and foremost when choosing every-day lingerie, but what we are seeing now is a definite trend towards seamless lingerie,” explains Laura Holt, Managing Director soseamless.com, “not only is seamless lingerie extremely comfortable, it also delivers the smooth and natural silhouette demanded by this seasons close fitting fashions, a fact that the style conscious woman clearly appreciates."

And just for those of us (the males reading this I am sure) who are clueless as to what the numbers and letters mean:

How to measure for a properly fitted bra.

Mike's Studio Tricks of the Bra  http://www.glamography.com/edu/fitbra.htm

Measure around your rib cage, underneath your breasts, where the band of your bra sits. Make sure to pull the tape snug and keep it flat against your back. Add 5 to this number (if you end up with an odd number, round up to the closest even number). This number is your bra size. Example: 29 inches +5 = size 34.

Measure around the fullest part of your breast, again keeping the tape snug, but not tight, and parallel to the rib-cage line. If this measurement is an odd number, round up to the next even number.  Example: 37 inches rounds up to 38.

To determine your cup size, subtract the first measurement from the second.

Example: 38 minus 34 = 4:
1-inch difference = A cup;
2-inch difference= B cup;
3-inch difference = C cup;
4-inch difference= D cup,
5-inch difference = DD cup.
6-inch difference = F cup.
7-inch difference = G cup.
8-inch difference = H cup.

So the examples result in a bra size of 34D, so this would be a good starting point to try to find the right bra for you.

If when you look at yourself in your bra you seem to "Flow" over the edges then get a cup size larger and Bra size smaller. The same is true if you don't fill the cup, reduce the cup size and go one bra size larger

HOW TO BUILD A BETTER BRA

I love science, I find some of the most interesting articles from the Brits and the Aussies.  It just seems like their reporters and scientists have more fun than ours.  Who says learning cannot be fun??

HOW 'INTELLIGENT FABRIC' WILL GIVE WOMEN BETTER BRAS

by Roger Dobson, The Independent, Science Section,  UK

Scientists have developed an "intelligent fabric" with its own sensors that can be used to design bras for women more accurately in the hope of putting an end to the discomfort and even long-term injury that can result from poor bra design.

Researchers have established that even when the bra is the correct size and properly fitted women can suffer pain and even nerve damage from bra straps.

The vertical movement of the chest can exceed 70mm (almost three inches) during vigorous effort and they say the stresses and strains can affect nerves around the shoulders so seriously that it causes numbness in fingers. Better support is needed because the female breast contains no supportive muscle or bone.

"A consequence of current brassiere design is that the brassiere straps bear much of the load generated by breast momentum during physical activity," say the researchers in the Journal of Biomechanics this week.

"As breast mass increases, breast bounce momentum also increases, placing large loads on the straps and, in turn, excessive pressure on the wearer's shoulders." They add: "Apart from strap-related pain, many females, particularly large-breasted women, are restricted from participating in physical activity due to exercise-induced breast pain associated with excessive vertical breast displacement."

In the research at the University of Wollongong, in Australia, scientists designed a special fabric with sensors to detect movement as women walked and jogged on a treadmill.

An early wire support bra??

Two women aged 30 and 39 with a 36D and a 38DD brassiere took part in the research where they walked at 7 kilometres an hour (4.3 miles an hour) and jogged at 10 kilometres an hour. The greatest vertical movement was monitored in the larger woman at a maximum of 68mm during jogging. That compared to a maximum of 53mm in the smaller woman. Movement during walking ranged from 11 to 25 mm.

The researchers say future bra designs must limit excessive breast movement without causing discomfort. "It is imperative that brassiere designers have access to methods that can accurately and reliably quantify the effects of various brassiere design features on breast motion while not altering the material properties of the brassiere," they say. "However, most commercially available technologies have traditionally been comprised of rigid parts, such as strain gauges or buckle transducers, which can interfere with performance."

Did Wonder Woman have the first Wonder Bra??  And just what kept it up??

They say recent advances in polymer science allow sensors to be built into fabrics to monitor human motion. "Our results show that the fabric sensors are suitable to monitor breast motion and brassiere function," they say. "Brassiere designers will have the ability directly to assess the effects of changes to each brassiere component on vertical breast and brassiere motion using fabric sensors."

BOUNCING BREASTS DESERVE SCIENTIFIC STUDY

I found it very hard to believe that this interesting subject has not been studied completely, thoroughly, repeatedly, and often before now.--John
*********

Breasts move far more than ordinary bras are designed to cope with, according to a study by University of Portsmouth scientist Dr Joanna Scurr.

And they also bounce more during exercise – up to 21cm rather than the maximum 16cm bounce measured in past studies.

Bras are designed to stop breasts bouncing but Dr Scurr’s study shows that breasts also move side to side and in and out.

It is estimated that more than 50 percent of women experience breast pain when exercising.

Significantly, Dr Scurr’s latest study also found that breasts move as much during slow jogging as they do at maximum sprint speed.

She said: “This makes wearing a sports bra as important if you jog slowly as if you sprint.”

Dr Scurr is working with major bra manufacturers in Britain and globally who are vying to design a bra which can lessen movement in all three dimensions and reduce much of the pain many women suffer when exercising.

She said: “There really are women who want to do exercise but who don’t have the bras to cope.

“I know of a 16 year old who was selected to play basketball for the county but she was told to give it up because she couldn’t find a bra that made playing possible.

“Breast size and pain caused by exercise can be a real barrier to women doing exercise.”

But pain is not linked to the size of a woman’s breasts. An A-cup woman could be prevented from doing sport just as much as a woman with double FF-cup size.

Breasts have very limited natural support and can hurt for three main reasons: tenderness during the menstrual cycle; permanent breast pain, and exercise-related pain due to stretching of the breast tissue.

Dr Scurr said: “If women wore the correct form of support, if we can get that right, the use of pain medication is reduced and women can be active and lead healthy lives.

“Studies have shown that medication to reduce breast pain was only successful for 54 percent of women, but they had to put up with side effects of the medication, whereas sports bras were shown to be successful at reducing breast pain for 80 percent of women, with no side effects at all."

Dr Scurr’s study disproves the previously held belief that compression bras are better for reducing movement in small breasted women and encapsulation bras better for larger breasted women. She found instead that encapsulation bars are better at reducing breast movement in women of all cup sizes.

She said the big question is why we know so little about the movement of breasts.

“Sports science has always been dominated by men and for them, studying breasts is seen as slightly laughable. For women, though, it’s completely credible – they can see the benefits.

“At conferences when I am asked what I study I say ‘bouncing breasts’ rather than breast biomechanics. It makes people laugh nervously but they always want to know more. So little has been known about this subject until recently.”

Her findings have enormous repercussions for the bra manufacturing industry and for women who want to lead active lives.

Her studies have lead to invitations to work with the military, the NHS and with lingerie manufacturers.

She is hoping to use cutting edge technology in 'intelligent materials' to help develop smart fabrics which can change to provide custom-made support for each woman which varies depending on the wearer’s level of activity.

She said: “It is only recently that bra design has turned to science. There was no research. It’s like designing a car or kitchen equipment without first thinking ‘what is the purpose of this?’

“We need to think why do we need bras? What do we need them to do?”

Seventy women were recruited for the two-year study through the university’s student and staff population, gyms and doctors’ surgeries.

Those chosen represent the widest range of breast sizes ever studied including women with cup sizes DD, E, F, FF, G, H, HH, J and JJ. The glamour model Jordan has a cup size of F, six sizes smaller than Dr Scurr’s biggest breasted subject.

Each woman had to undergo a programme of tests during which a wide range of biomechanical measurements were taken.

Dr Scurr said: “We are building up a database on breast biomechanics which we believe is the largest in the world.

“This information could be used to inform bra design, for clinical support, fundamental breast health research and to broaden understanding in this important area.”
